Different Drug Treatment Facility Types

If you have a drug or alcohol problem and you are looking into drug treatment facilities, then you have already taken a very important step. You'll want to know about the different options out there and what you can expect. This article will give you some insight into the different types of programs there are and what they have to offer you.

Detox facility

If you are regularly drinking or regularly using hard drugs, then you may need to go to a detox facility first. In this type of facility, they will help you to come down off of the alcohol or drugs safely. The programs can differ as to weather they keep you after detox for a period of time to council you or they are just a stepping stone you pass over on your way to another facility once you have detoxed.

Short term facility

There are shorter term facilities available you can go to that can run from anywhere from a few weeks to 6 months. These facilities focus on giving you a start on the tools you are going to need in order to maintain your sobriety in the real world. You will stay in the facility and there will be rules regarding contacting friends and family, as well as regarding leaving the premises. While you may not like the idea of these rules, they are part of a proven system put in place to get you the best results, so you have the best chance of recovery.

Long term facility

There are also long-term facilities where you can plan on spending anywhere from 6 months to a year in. While this may seem like a long time, it is often the amount of time needed for someone suffering with alcoholism and addiction who is going to need to have a lot of tools and education to take with them back out in the world in order to succeed. When you are in these long-term facilities, they may also have programs in place that help to reintegrate you back into the working class. They may also have classes to help with things such as getting your GED, getting your license or other classes to help you be ahead once you go back home.

Meetings

Once you get out of any type of facility, it is important for you to attend meetings regularly. At these meetings you will get a sponsor who will help you to maintain your sobriety and you will be able to share, which will help you get things off your shoulders.
